Dear Researchers I will be working with you during the Delft ITN Spin-NANO workshop which will take place in June 2017. The workshop programme has been developed on the basis of the training needs identified across the cohort from your Training Needs Analysis forms. The programme aims to foster the development of key skills which researchers need to master during the course of their professional lives. The overall theme of the Delft workshop is: “Becoming excellent and impactful communicators” The proposed programme will include sessions on the following: · Communicating your research to peers- Presentation Skills Masterclass · Developing a video narrative of your research · Communication for effective networking · Refining the quality of your writing · Strategies for effective writing habits · Communicating to access research funding · Communicating in the digital age This is an intense programme and we want to ensure our time together is as effective as possible. So, we are asking you to do some tasks prior to attending the meeting in Delft. Please read carefully the 3 documents listed below - it includes some preparation work in advance of the meeting. 1. Prep and tasks (includes groups for feedback and video task). 2. Presentation feedback forms- please print 2 copies each and bring to the symposium Timings of activities: - Tuesday, 20th June: 15:15 - 17:00 - group work on video development - Wednesday, 21st June: 09:00 - 17:00 - Thursday, 22nd June: 09:00 - 16:30 (There is a cafe next to Building 22 for lunch) Venue Room - A272 TU Delft - Applied Physics (AP) Building number: 22 Lorentzweg 1 2628 CJ Delft Directions - Enter the building at the main entrance and take the stairs to the second floor. On the second floor take right. Walk to the end of the hall and take right again. The room is at the far right end of this hall. If you have any questions about any elements of the training programme and preparation, please do not hesitate to get in touch. In addition, if there are other elements related to “communication” that you would want me to incorporate into the Delft programme, please let me know as I am very happy to further tailor the programme towards your needs. I assume that all of you will have a mobile phone with a good camera (likely to be better than mine!) which you will be able to use to do the video recording. If this is not the case, no worries, just send me a line to let me know. I can book video recorders and bring them with me. Please let me know this week if possible. As I work as a coach with researchers, I am also open to offer ITN researchers some 1: 1 coaching sessions during the course of the programme to discuss any issues/ challenges as part of your studies where coaching discussions could help. Get in touch with me directly if you wish to benefit from such input so we can identify a time to meet (evenings) in Delft. If you are interested but unsure, send me a line to discuss.
